Stolen Pieces by Eva & Franco Mattes. Photo: http://www.thedailybeast.com
Eva and Franco Mattes did just that. The ballsy, Brooklyn-based Italian artists spent 2 years stealing fragments from some really famous works of art by Kandinsky, Duchamp and Koons, among others. Fifteen years after their thieving spree, their collection of stolen pieces is traveling the world, displayed in galleries like the Carroll/Fletcher Gallery in London, and the Postmasters Gallery in New York. Why the wait? Because at this point, the statute of limitations protects them from any legal action. Brilliant self-promotion, wouldn’t you say?
