If you search for book sculptures on the internet, you’ll come across some incredible creations, including one that stares right back at you – artist Hubertus Gojowczyk’s “Latest News.” With Halloween on the brain, I thought this would make the coolest, spooky prop for my favourite time of the year.

Welcome To The Crazy House
The wonderful work of artist Tyree Guyton had to inspire a project. If you didn’t get a chance to see my last post about The Heidelberg Project, do have a look at what this artist did for his hometown in Detroit. It involved using art to reclaim the deteriorating neighbourhood he grew up in, and began with painting houses in bright colours and beautiful polka dots, and embellishing them with recycled items and found objects. They all look a bit crazy, but they all have a story to tell.
Making a crazy toy house is a great way to tell a story, and provide a space for favourite toys and characters. It’s also a fun opportunity to display older craft creations, and use up a ton of recycled bits you may have lying around.

Hundertwasser’s Unusual Designs
The Austrian artist and architect, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, had a truly unique way of expressing himself. His work was filled with bold colours, organic shapes, and an obvious respect for nature. Some his architectural designs included rooftops covered with grass, deliberately uneven apartment floors, and always a preference for curvy lines over straight ones. He loved to experiment and often chose to make his own paints, while also exploring a variety of different supports for his work like wood and wrapping paper. He remains one of the most well-known contemporary Austrian artists, and his unique and unusual architectural designs and paintings continue to draw admiration today.
This mixed media project is about painting a building inspired by Hundertwasser’s style, filled with vibrantly coloured waves, curves, and irregular forms.
