How wonderfully disturbing to greet your guests with these odd little creatures lurking in your entrance. They were inspired by a exhibition I saw, pictured below, by Annette Messager, where she explored the idea of covered things which are half hidden and half revealed. Perfect for Halloween.
- black knee high stockings
- white styrofoam balls
- bamboo stakes or similar
- black pipe cleaners
1. Place a styrofoam ball inside a black knee high stocking. Use scissors to cut out a few strategically placed holes to make the eyes and mouth. The holes you cut should be quite small, because once you let go, they become larger than expected.
2. Attach the stocking by wrapping it around the top of a bamboo stake and making a knot. Wrap some black pipe cleaners around a pencil to create a swirly spiral shape and attach as many as you want to the top of the stake. You can make a number of these to line your walkway or decorate entrance pots, so visitors will be appropriately welcomed on Halloween. All materials are easily found at dollar stores.
