I admit to having discreetly ditched a few Christmas ornaments in my day, in order to make room for new arrivals, because who can say no to just one more ornament.
Materials
- styrofoam ball
- acrylic paint and brush
- white glue
- toothpick
- scissors
- pin hook for hanging ornament
- metallic thread
- decorations eg. stickers, pompoms, beads, pins, etc.
Instructions
1.Paint a styrofoam ball with acrylic paint. Rest on a base such as an egg carton, to prevent it from moving around while drying.
2. Put a small amount of white glue on a pin hook, and press it into one end of the styrofoam ball.
3. Decorate the ball by gluing on various decorations such as glitter and cut outs, all easily found at dollar stores. Applying glue with a toothpick can help with small items. You can even pin small beads onto the ball.
4. Once the glue has dried, attach some decorative thread to the pin hook so you can hang the ball up. It’s a fun and easy ornament to make for the tree, or imagine a bunch of them hanging from the ceiling of a child’s room, adding a little sparkly fun to look at while falling asleep.
Maybe it’s just because my grandsons keep reminding me they want Star Wars toys for Christmas, but this ornament reminds me of the Death Star!
I like projects like this, where there’s a whole array of components to choose from and you just go crazy creating!
You could have your grandsons make a Star Wars themed ornament! That might help, until the big day arrives.
I have several ornaments similar to this from my grandparents. Very neat!
Thank you!
